The Gaybombay Survey for the Hottest IPL Cricketer Yes, it's finally Decision Day. As the Nation waits with bated breath, as Barkha and Rajdeep battle it out to see who can get more excited and who has better graphics, as Yogendra Yadav points to yet another emerging trend in a marginal area and as we cut to reporters on the ground... ooops, sorry, wrong election. But rather more entertaining surely. The Gaybombay Survey on the Hottest Cricketer in the India Premier League has come to a close with 109 people participating in the poll. And here are the results: 1) Enthusiastic Viewers: The first result clearly shows that gay men and women are as enthusiastic about cricketer as everyone else in India. 73% of respondents said they were watching the IPL avidly. 2) And the Hottest Player is... Winner: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Chennai SuperKings) - No question about it, the gay community is just as hot as the rest of India for the boy next door hotness of Dhoni. He swept the polls with 22 votes, way ahead of the first runner up. First Runner-Up: Yuvraj Singh (Kings XI Punjab) - Classically handsome and a winning captain too, with his team already qualified for the semis. He was voted first runner-up with 11 votes Second Runner-Up: Manpreet Gony (Chennai SuperKings) - One of the revelations of the IPL, both for his bowling and his hunky Punjabi looks. He's the one hottie who's really been exposed by the IPL and the gay community has voted him second runner-up with 10 votes. Third Runner-Up: Irfan Pathan (Kings XI Punjab) - With that killer smile its surprising he didn't score higher, but that shows the level of competition in the IPL. He was voted third runner-up by a fraction - one voted couldn't choose between him and Shadab Jakati of Chennai SuperKings, so he got a half vote which added to six votes just pushed him ahead of the fourth runner-up. Fourth Runner-Up: Virat Kohli (Bangalore Royal Challengers) - His team hasn't done well, but this cute young player has certainly captured some attention. He was voted fourth runner-up with six votes. Fifth Runner-Up: Sachin Tendulkar (Mumbai Indians) - Sachin will always have his fans in Mumbai! He was voted fifth runner-up with four votes Players with three votes: Shane Watson, Shane Warne, Rahul Dravid. Despite the many good-looking foreign players, the voters stuck to Indian hunks, with only the two Shanes making some impact. They got three votes along with Rahul Dravid who, a few years back, would probably have topped any hot players list. But sadly, along with his career, it looks like Rahul's appeal is in decline. Players with two votes: Shoaib Malik, Ishant Sharma, Shreesanth, Albie Morkel, Gautam Gambhir, Brett Lee, Pradeep Sangwan, Sourav Ganguly - With his major ad exposure and blond good looks we would have thought that Brett Lee would score higher. But the gay community wasn't that impressed and only two people voted him, tying him with the babyfaced Morkel, tall and sexy Ishant Sharma, handsome Shoaib Malik, cute and crazy Sreesanth (good dancing skills - always a plus point!), hunky Snagwan, Delhi's wide eyed Gautam Gambhir and, of course, the one and only gold jewellery sporting Dada. The gay community believes in diversity and it certainly showed in the rest of the votes. Voters had either noted some lesser known hotties while watching, or were directed to the IPL site where the pictures of the players had been posted which helped with the research. The list of these single vote winners is very long, but we'll just print the names here of some of the cuties who attracted attention. We'll be keeping an eye on them! Farveez Maharoof (Delhi Daredevils) 3) The Hottest Captain The survey also asked which was the hottest captain of all the teams and really there was hardly any contest. Dhoni swept the polls here with 46%, way ahead of Yuvraj's 24%. Rahul Dravid was a distant 11%. 4) The Hottest Team At one point it looked like Dhoni's charisma - plus Gony's appeal would sweep Chennai SuperKings to Hottest Team. But perhaps it was their greater success, or perhaps it was the Yuvraj-Irfan partnership, or perhaps it was the traditional appeal of Punjabi hunks but Kings XI Punjab edged them out with 30% to Chennai SuperKings 23%. Shahrukh Khan's appeal may have helped Kolkata Knight Readers at 11% edge out Mumbai Indians at 10%. Delhi Daredevils and Bangalore Royal Challengers came next at 8%, and Rajasthan Royals came surprisingly low at 6% with Deccan Chargers a dismal last at 4%. |
