GayBombay has had several meets related to HIV and its effects on the community over the years. We host a special meet this Sunday, on the same subject.
This meet comes to you without great planning. It was organised specifically because Jay Vithalani, is in town. He, as his statement below mentions, has been a member of Gaybombay and can speak about HIV and its general concerns, from a very close perspective. We add his statement here and hope you will be able to join us at our meeting place at Versova.
“Hulloos! I’m Jay Vithalani, an early member of GB. I’ve been HIV-positive for over 11 years. I am open about my status, in person and online. At this meet I’d like to talk about some personal stuff first. So, some things like: the difficult first year after my diagnosis (psychologically), support groups, meds, disclosure, sex with negative partners (the majority actually, including an ex-husband!).
“More generally, HIV – whether you’re negative or positive – in the Indian context (that covers a LOT of stuff I know). Why PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is awesome. But this meet is about you – again, whether negative or positive – so I hope there’s a lot of Q & A time, some about personal matters, some about testing and meds, some about… whatever people want to talk about. I hope many people come to this meet and I look forward to seeing you all!”
